Since there was so much pruning to be done in this area of the forum (there were still intro posts from people we have not seen online in a year), I chose to simplify my job and wipe the slate clean. Let's start over here, with current members creating a good example by posting a capsule description of themselves and their play styles so we can all get to know each other better!
I'll begin:
My life story is not worth repeating in full, but you should probably know I have been a technician for the Geek Squad for years, and a gamer of the "optimizer" breed for quite some time longer (GameFAQs and several other sites still host some of my old game guides).
My odyssey through Guild Wars began in January 2008, when I just happened to have the urge to grab a new game off the shelf. For about a week, I dithered about which one to get, and then the original GW Prophecies box caught my eye. I read the description, thought it was cool that I did not have to pay monthly fees for an online game, and decided to try it...
I was hooked within hours. I could praise the game for a long time, but you're already here, so I think I'd be preaching to the choir. I soon was cheerfully giving ANet my hard earned cash for all the expansions, and buying my wife the whole set as an early Valentines present... then talking my younger brother and one of my best friends into playing as well.
My first focus was title hunting. I wanted (and still do) to eventually be able to wear God Walking Among Mere Mortals. I dested my first character within a week and started over in Pre-Searing Ascalon to make Legendary Defender my first title! Yes, trust me, I know exactly how foolish that was--my family grew to hate me, and the stress of so many failed death leveling sessions almost killed my passion for the game before I could even get out of Pre, but I managed to make it through and I've never looked back. These days I'm up to 6 maxed titles, and lots more halfway or more there, so I will reach my goal eventually! Hopefully before GW2 launches at any rate...
I admit, I prefer PvE play, but I've gotten pretty good at PvP as well, especially Jade Quarry, and I'm helping with our new effort to work on Guild vs Guild teams. My character roster is as follows:
Sigismund Sable (warrior primary, by far my main, with over 90% of my overall total play time, and also my title hunting character)
Sadhras Sable (ranger)
Srinivas Sable (necromancer)
Seyrano Sable (assassin)
Segillus Sable (ritualist)
Scirocco Sable (dervish)
Spetum Sable (paragon)
X Sigismund Sable X (a visual near-clone of the original Sig, left in Pre at level 15 to help newer people)
One of these days I will get around to putting more play time on my other characters, and I got a second account in case someone else in the family needs to play on our other desktop computer--the main character on that one is the aptly named Sable Pre Storage, a mule for my primary Pre-Searing character.
As for my play style, I tend to be the team member (no matter what profession) that "tanks"--that is, tries to attract the monsters' attention so they don't work over the other members of the party. I'm pretty good at it, largely because my builds focus more on defense and self-sufficiency in healing and condition/hex removal than many builds I have seen others use. This means, whatever I'm helping with, unless a specific skill setup is mandatory for my expected role, you should not need to worry too much about me... I can take care of myself!
There, now you know the basics about the senior Sable. Everyone else, feel free to chip in with your own introductions now, please! Each of you go ahead and start a thread with your own introduction, that way anyone who has comments or questions can direct them specifically to you.
